(Learn why Lauren is running here!)
Lauren was born and raised in Smithtown, New York, a Long Island suburb 50 miles east of New York City. After graduating from Smithtown High School, she headed to New Jersey and studied at Princeton University. She earned her B.A. with honors in Psychology in 2000.
She then moved up to the Boston area and began a doctoral program in psychology (clinical science track) at Harvard University. During her graduate school years, Lauren researched post-traumatic stress disorder, taught undergraduate courses, and completed a yearlong clinical internship at the Medical University of South Carolina.
She received her Ph.D. from Harvard in 2007 and worked at the Boston VA Research Institute for two years. In 2010, Lauren returned to an academic setting and began working as an analyst in the Office of Institutional Research at Tufts University, an office tasked with collecting, analyzing, and reporting on data about Tufts to help the university make informed decisions. She now serves as the Assistant Director and sits on several committees related to student wellness.
Lauren and her husband, Tom Esposito, met in college and married in 2003. Their daughter Madelyn was born in 2009; four months later, the family moved to Andover, where Tom had been working for a tech firm since 2001. In 2012, they welcomed their son James to the family.
In her 11 years as an Andover resident, Lauren has volunteered with numerous local organizations. She currently sits on the South Elementary School Improvement Council and has helped plan many events with the South Elementary PTO. Having earned her Girl Scout Gold Award long ago, Lauren was eager to get involved in Girl Scouting again; she has co-led an Andover troop since 2014. She especially loves taking the troop camping! Additionally, she volunteers with A Better Chance of Andover, and she gives back to her alma mater by interviewing Andover area high school applicants.
Lauren enjoys cheering on her children as they swim with Crimson Aquatics, gardening with the Andover Community Garden Association, cooking and baking, and spending time outside with her family. She hopes to one day hike in every one of our country’s National Parks and to solve the Sunday NYT crossword puzzle unassisted.
